Grace of Giving
“But just as you excel in everything–in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us–see that you also excel in this grace of giving.”
– 2 Corinthians 8:7 (NIV)
The Bible says we are to give:
We, as United Methodists, believe that giving is an act of thanksgiving and worship. It requires us to have faith in God, that He is our true Provider and will supply all that we need. “And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:15.
Through our tithes and offerings, we prove ourselves faithful in the stewardship of all that God has provided for us.
Giving generously of spirit doesn’t flow from the amount of money you have. It flows from the amount of love you have received. Giving is an active expression of our faith in God.
It affirms our confidence in his ability to supply all we need and is an act of gratitude and dependence upon Him.
Prioritize giving in your family budget
In Proverbs 3:9 we are taught to honor God with the “first fruits” of our labor. By setting up a recurring gift, you are making a conscious act to make giving a first priority in your life.
Online giving provides a quick, easy and secure way to make your contributions. You can make a one-time gift or establish a recurring contribution. You will not need to remember if you gave this month or send in your gift when you are out of town.
Consistency for the Church
A basic reality of church finances is that giving typically declines during the summer months when school is out and members take vacations. Automatic giving provides a reliable source of income for the Church during these times.
Online giving is more secure than giving with a check in that an electronic gift cannot be lost or stolen. Online financial transactions are encrypted. The security of your contribution also rests with your security of your individual password.
